Betting on The Baron

By Howard G. Chua-Eoan

No, Terry Jones, Eric Idle and Terry Gilliam aren't reacting
to Gilliam's new film The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Last
week they were being bowled over by a 20th anniversary
celebration for Monty Python's Flying Circus at New York City's
Museum of Broadcasting. There they explained the Pythons' mania
for cross-dressing on a budget that skimped on actresses. "If
we'd had money," joked Gilliam, "we'd have been mediocre." That
bodes ill for the Baron, which he directed and which includes
a lunatic cameo by Robin Williams. The cost of the movie, due
in March, ballooned from $23 million to officially "under $40
million." And rumors add $10 million more.
